Kouji OKAMURA
Director of Cyber Security Center, Kyushu University
The Kyushu University Cyber Security Center, which was established in 2014, aims to solve cyber security issues, which are urgent issues in Japan and internationally.
On the research side, we are working on research to secure external funding and IoT, which is an important component of “Society 5.0” with overseas universities.
In terms of education, we are conducting a lecture “Cybersecurity Basics” that all first-year students of Kyushu University take.
In addition, we participate in enpit, a human resources development project of the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, and carry out activities to develop and educate specialists for undergraduate students and working adults.
Strengthen industry-government collaboration with Fujitsu Limited and Fukuoka Prefectural Police, and further overseas countries such as Maryland University Baltimore, Australia’s New South Wales University, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, University of London Royal Holloway, and Cyber We promote international cooperation on security and conduct a wide range of sustainable education and research on cybersecurity.

Departments
Department of Education for Cybersecurity
The department of education for cybersecurity plans out an education curriculum in the latest cybersecurity and carries out the plan by collaboration with related departments.
Specifically, we develop a basic education curriculum for all undergraduate students, a specialized education curriculum to gain expertise and a training program to improve knowledge and skills of staffs in Kyushu University.
Also, we conduct researches toward a global cybersecurity training in addition to worldwide education and evaluation, which apply a rubric, a teaching material development and GPA (Grade Point Average) of the developed educational programs.
Department of Advanced Technologies for Cybersecurity
To adopt countermeasures timely after detecting unknown cybersecurity incidents accurately, the department of advanced technologies for cybersecurity conducts a research toward an unknown cybersecurity thereat detection with Big Data techniques of a detail network behavior analysis based on software specifications and communication protocols.
Also, we engage in a research of a robust data protection technology such as next-generation encryption.
Department of Social Cybersecurity
The department of social cybersecurity pursues a global sharing of security information as one of cybersecurity researches.
Also, we conduct researches toward a balancing of privacy protection and usability, a cybercrime, a legal system and social phenomenon by collaboration with domestic and international organizations.
Department of International Collaboration
Cyber security has no borders, and international collaboration is extremely important to achieve advanced cyber security. We will develop international standard student education programs and specialist human resource development programs in collaboration with top-class overseas researchers, including the University of Maryland, with which Kyushu University has concluded an agreement.
In addition, these programs will be implemented by specially-appointed
faculty members invited from overseas.
