Research and development of IoT security framework

In order to develop an application that realizes a safe and secure IoT space, we researched and developed a framework focusing on blockchain technology. As a basic research policy, we have proposed a method to solve the problems of blockchain technology and incorporated it into the framework.

[Efforts to solve problems in blockchain technology so far]
Strengths Security aspects such as data tamper resistance and highly secure information sharing method
Weaknesses High computing power, large capacity storage to accommodate the power consumption and data required for computation

In fiscal 2019, we worked on a method to solve the problem of linking blockchain and external data. This task is called the Oracle problem. As a method to solve this problem, we proposed a decentralized Oracle method that secures data reliability by forming consensus among multiple users. In addition, the proposed method was implemented, and excellent results were obtained compared with the results of previous studies. This research was discussed with Indian researchers and the research results were co-authored.

Research and development of IoT security applications

Using the framework mentioned above, we researched and developed applications for Society 5.0 society such as smart buildings.

In fiscal 2019, we worked on the following contents.

[icon name = “angle-double-right” class = “” unprefixed_class = “”] Energy management

We proceeded with research and development of applications that manage energy assuming smart buildings. The results of the research were announced.

[icon name = “angle-double-right” class = “” unprefixed_class = “”] Volunteer Computing

We continued to research and develop volunteer computing applications using IoT. We announced the results of this research.

[icon name = “angle-double-right” class = “” unprefixed_class = “”] Autonomous driver traffic management

Assuming the autonomous driving society of the Society 5.0 era, we researched and developed an application that simulates the traffic management mechanism of autonomous drivers using blockchain technology. The results of this research will be announced in 2020.

We have developed a network packet visualization application to protect the security of IoT devices. This research result was co-authored with an Indian researcher.

Cooperation with various fields

First, regarding collaboration with the Indian side, the above-mentioned frameworks and applications were collaborated with researchers on the Indian side, and the paper was co-authored and published as a research result.

Next, regarding collaboration with other WPs, we proceeded while discussing the research content with WP3 researchers in FY2019 as well.

Finally, regarding collaboration with companies, we conducted a survey to seek collaboration with Indian companies. The contents of the survey were announced. In addition, through an online conference, we discussed the possibility of collaboration with Indian companies with researchers on the Indian side.
